I read here that John Lennon\u2019s original draft of his <em>A day in the life<\/em> recently went at auction for \u00a3810 000 &amp; that took me back to the first time I heard that masterpiece when I was an innocent boy of 15. Years later it inspired this (less lucrative) poem:<\/p>\n<p><strong>A day in the life<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>You imagine the solidity of<br \/>\nbricks \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0mortar \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0suburbs.<br \/>\nThe transience of music &amp; memory.<br \/>\nrehearsing the school musical<br \/>\nin the community Hall in Camden<br \/>\nAt the cast party the camaraderie<br \/>\nof shared experience.<br \/>\nWhen you  could have a wild time<br \/>\nwithout booze or drugs wearing the new pinstriped flairs<br \/>\nAnd the whole night playing<br \/>\nthat one new record over and over<br \/>\ncalled Sergeant Peppers.<br \/>\nEvery track a fresh view of<br \/>\nthe world.<br \/>\nThirty five years on taking a shortcut<br \/>\nyou find yourself in the same street.<br \/>\nEverywhere beige courtyard homes.<br \/>\nThe music and memories more<br \/>\nconcrete with time<\/p>\n<p>The Hall, gone.<\/p>\n<p>(\u00a9 rob walker 2006 from <em>micromacro<\/em>)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;m in London right now visiting my daughter Amy.
