 <\/p>\n

Back at Day 18 we were challenged to write a ruba\u2019i which is a Persian form (multiple stanzas in the ruba\u2019i form are a rubaiyat, like The Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam<\/a>.) Basically, a ruba\u2019i is a four-line stanza, with a rhyme scheme of AABA and has been often used in English such as Robert Frost\u2019s famous poem\u00a0Stopping By Woods on a Snowy Evening<\/a>\u00a0. I\u2019ve been working on this for a few days. It began as a half-conceived idea from 2008!<\/p>\n

Bubbles of reality<\/h4>\n

 <\/p>\n

So here I am, a front-row seat<\/p>\n

in Amsterdam, a cool-jazz beat<\/p>\n

Modern Jazz Quartet they\u2019re called<\/p>\n

It\u2019s \u201957. Urbane. Sweet.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Chamber music\u2019s Modern Age,<\/p>\n

John Lewis piano-playing sage.<\/p>\n

Lost in music\u2019s interplay<\/p>\n

my seat jerks roughly towards the stage<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

My earplugs and my iPod fall<\/p>\n

I realise I\u2019m not there at all<\/p>\n

but on a bus with windows fogged<\/p>\n

and in Japan, I now recall.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

It\u2019s hot in here but not outside<\/p>\n

Commuters sleep all through the ride<\/p>\n

We pass Himeji Castle, snow,<\/p>\n

My reverie\u2019s abruptly died.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

I wonder if I\u2019m really here<\/p>\n

an Alien Resident for a year<\/p>\n

or back at Home still sound asleep,<\/p>\n

alarm about to ring out clear\u2026<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

And so it goes, banality,<\/p>\n

the bubbles of reality<\/p>\n

like Russian dolls each bubble pops<\/p>\n

I doubt my person-ality.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

And when I die will I be less<\/p>\n

than all a bubble can compress?<\/p>\n

And will the final burst reveal<\/p>\n

a mere sphere of nothingness?<\/p>\n
