<\/a>I began Against the grain<\/em> in the last year of dad\u2019s life after I gave him a shave when he was in the nursing home. The poem needed a lot of rewrites \u00a0and time and distance to mature. The piece has been published in the Masque edition of Australia\u2019s cordite poetry review (see HERE<\/a>.) I\u2019m also honoured that it\u2019s inspired the title of a contemporary visual art piece \u201cMy grain goes all over the place\u201d by Tony Lamont (here<\/a>.) Tony says \u201cI came across this by accident and it cut me to the chafe. I recently had to shave my much loved father-in-law in the same way, and my emotion was high at the time. A wonderful poem, thankyou.<\/em>\u201d Thanks Tony. It\u2019s always gratifying to know that you\u2019ve captured an emotion which has been shared by others \u2013 it\u2019s even more humbling when you inspire someone else to create something new.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
