A few weeks stay<br \/>\nblew out to years.<\/h4>\n<h4>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0now the land\u2019s being developed.<br \/>\nthe itinerants reminded of who they are<br \/>\nhave pulled up sticks and blown.<\/h4>\n<h4>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 trees logged and sectioned<br \/>\nwhere they lay, snakes truncated,<br \/>\nspade-sliced.<\/h4>\n<h4>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 and everywhere small<br \/>\npiles, \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0the detritus<br \/>\nof lives.<\/h4>\n<h4>jigsaw gyprock, plywood, distorted PVC pipe,<br \/>\npotplants all swept into haphazard mole-hills<br \/>\nby a dozer\u2019s blade.<\/h4>\n<h4>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 small squares of concrete aprons<br \/>\npads for a cabin or footsteps<br \/>\nto keep mud out of the van.<\/h4>\n<h4>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 every small concrete square<br \/>\na demarcation \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0of one<br \/>\nlife.<\/h4>\n<h4>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 where he had a quiet beer. where<br \/>\nthey had sex. where<br \/>\nshe wondered how she\u2019d raise the kid alone.<\/h4>\n<h4>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 now a giant hand\u2019s wiped the pieces<br \/>\nfrom the chessboard.<br \/>\nonly squares remain.<\/h4>\n<h4>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 you could call it life\u2019s <em>rich tapestry<\/em> only<br \/>\nno-one here was rich, the social fabric\u2019s<br \/>\nfraying \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0the warp is in our values.<\/h4>\n<h4>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 best to clear out the people,<br \/>\nfell the necessary trees. <em>quick!<\/em><br \/>\n<em>before the greenies get organised!<\/em><\/h4>\n<h4>then wait.<\/h4>\n<h4>today all is silence.<\/h4>\n<h4>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 the treelopper\u2019s machinery<br \/>\n(<em>plant<\/em> without trace of irony)<br \/>\nstands idle.<\/h4>\n<h4>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0dust blows in willy-willies,<br \/>\nexploring places once covered.<\/h4>\n<h4><em>it\u2019s all for the best.<\/em><br \/>\n<em> it will only improve the suburb.<\/em><br \/>\n<em> lift the values.<\/em><\/h4>\n<h4>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0the landless are moved on, reminded<br \/>\nthat their place \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0is to have no place<br \/>\nand disappear \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0like dust.<\/h4>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>rob walker. \u00a02011<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A great remix of my poem Clearing the caravan park as No rent low enough by Wired_Ant\u00a0(from Germany) on ccMixter.
